Navigating Wedding Costs: Tips from a Debt Relief Attorney

The average cost of a wedding in 2023 was $29,000, according to Fidelity, putting a financial strain on many couples as they begin their new life together. Debt relief attorney Leslie Tayne, with 25 years of experience, shared some valuable tips for couples looking to manage their wedding expenses.

Tayne advised couples to carefully consider how much they want to spend on their wedding and to anticipate going over budget. She suggested finding ways to pay off the wedding expenses over time, such as extending the engagement period to save up money or putting funds into a high-interest savings account.

In addition, Tayne recommended negotiating with vendors and being flexible with wedding dates to save money. She also highlighted the financial burden that wedding guests face, including attire, gifts, and travel costs. Tayne encouraged guests to be selective about which weddings they attend and offered tips on how to save money on wedding attire, such as swapping outfits with friends or renting clothes.

For guests on a tight budget, Tayne suggested communicating with the wedding host about attending and providing a gift that is affordable. She emphasized the importance of finding creative ways to congratulate the couple and mentioned that it is acceptable to decline a wedding invitation if necessary.

As wedding season approaches, Tayne’s advice serves as a helpful guide for both couples and guests to navigate the financial aspects of weddings.
